I am a Professor of International Human Rights in MA Human Rights Program at the City University of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and teaching the courses: Introduction to Human Rights, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (HR713) and Human Rights: International and Domestic Legal Frameworks (HR702). I also teach Introduction to Criminal Justice, Transnational Crime courses at the University of Bridgeport, CT.
In the past, I was Fulbright Scholar at Georgetown University Government Department, Washington DC, and a Guest Professor at Nottingham University Human Rights Law Centre, the UK. Moreover, as an expert on International Relations, I taught some undergraduate and graduate courses on International Organizations, International Law, Criminal Justice, Security, and Human Rights issues to diverse students at various universities in Turkey, and gave speeches at Michigan State and Friends Universities, Budapest Police College, and the OSCE/ODIHR/Warsaw, NATO/Washington.
I have strong academic credentials: I earned PhD degree in International Studies at Surrey University LIS Department, LLM degree in International Law at Nottingham University Law Faculty, and LLB degree at Ankara University Law School. For my master’s thesis, I studied on the evaluation of the human rights guarantees under the process of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). My doctoral dissertation was basically on the relationship between the OSCE human rights, foreign policy and law. My research interests are as follows: International Law and Organizations, Human Rights, Foreign Policy, Security, Law enforcement, Terrorism.
I have publications: Books, book chapters, journal articles, papers, newspaper articles. I also participated in various international research projects with significant outcomes, budgeting totally about a million US dollars in estimated value: Prevention of Corruption in Turkey (Council of Europe); Improvement of Civilian Oversight of Internal Security Sector (United Nations); Guidebook on Democratic Policing (OSCE); Homeland Security, Foreign Policy and Terrorism at Georgetown University (Fulbright); Practice of Arrest and Detention in the UK and Turkey (British Council). Having made institutional services at the universities, I am the founder of the Institution for Security Sciences of the Police Academy, and the Communications Faculty of Pamukkale University.
